In the wake of the the iOS 13 release, thousand of apps broke one way or another and Weather4D was no exception.  Innovation sometimes comes with a bit of pain but 2020 starts with a release containing new fixes.  We’d like first and foremost to thank our users community.  Your proactivity in letting us know about the issues either through the support channel or via the Facebook Weather4D Users group really helps.

File imports such as grib files import and polars (csv files) import are now fixed.

World Magnetic Model (WMM 2020) update

The northen magnetic pole is a moving point and we reflect these varitations in Weather4D each time the NCEI and the British Geological Survey publish an update.

“Since Earth’s magnetic field is created by its moving, molten iron core, its poles aren’t stationary and they wander independently of each other. Since its first formal discovery in 1831, the north magnetic pole has traveled around 1,400 miles (2,250 km). This wandering has been generally quite slow, allowing scientists to keep track of its position fairly easily. Since the turn of the century, this speed has increased. 

The WMM2020 forecasts that the northern magnetic pole will continue drifting toward Russia, although at a slowly decreasing speed—down to about 40 km per year compared to the average speed of 55 km over the past twenty years.”

Re-center button

This simple button will be handy especially when you explore a chart. For instance when figuring out how to enter a harbor while you’re still at large.  The boat is eventually off-screen and you wish to quickly re-center it within the screen.

Apple releases iOS 13

Apple states iOS 13 introduces a bold new look, major updates to the apps you use every day, new ways to help you protect your privacy, and improvements across the entire system that make your iPhone even faster and more delightful to use.

This is great but a system update often comes with a few “bumps”.  In certain cases, Weather4D no longer retrieves the GPS when  data from the system.

How to retrieve GPS data with iOS 13?

Note this is a temporary workaround.  A fix is being tested and will be released asap.

iPad

1. Launch Weather4D
2. Go to your device “Settings”
3. Scroll all the way down to “Weather4D” and tap
4. Tap on “Location”
5. Select “While using the App”.  If “While using the App” is already selected, select “Never” and select again “While Using the App” (or “Always” for Weather4D Routing & Navigation users)
6. Switch back to Weather4D
7. Make sure the blue target is set to “GPS location”
8. The GPS data will be displayed again

iPhone

1. Launch Weather4D
2. Go to your device “Settings”
3. Scroll down to “Privacy” and tap
4. Tap on “Location Services”
5. Scroll all the way down to “Weather4D” and tap
6. Select “Ask Next Time”.
7. Switch back to Weather4D
8. Make sure the blue target is set to “GPS location”
9. A popup dialog will be displayed.  Select “While Using the App”
10. The GPS data will be displayed again

Note: This workaround is necessary each time the App is launched.
